In 1991, a man died in his house after telling his friends about something hell-bent on killing him just a week before. Did he scare himself to death, or was it actually something evil?
Christopher Case grew up in Virginia and worked as a radio DJ. He was well-rounded and disciplined and absolutely loved being in shape. He used to take his vitamins and worked out almost every day.
He wanted to start a new career in music and decided to shift west to Seattle. He worked with a company called Muzak Holdings Company, known for the kind of soft music that we hear in waiting rooms and elevators around the world.
Christopher was friendly and had made new friends in his company, and at the same time, he was in contact with his old friends as well. Despite having many friends, he was an introvert and stayed single for years. His passion was in music, and he traveled all over the U.S. He had a keen interest in ancient compositions. He loved spending time listening to his kind of music at home instead of going out, meeting people, and socializing.
On 18th April 1991, Christopher was found dead. His body was in his apartment, and there was no evidence of forced entry or struggle anywhere in his body or the apartment.
Christopher's body was found fully clothed, kneeling in his bathtub with his forehead against the bathroom wall. It was as if he had just passed away after falling asleep in the bathtub.
However, the police found a few things that raised questions. They found crucifixes, salt on the house's entrance and various other places, and books on black magic. The police heard strange music playing faintly in other rooms. The coroner later confirmed that Christopher suffered a fatal heart attack, and that was the main cause of his death.
The investigation started and gradually seemed more like a paranormal case.
Shortly after Christopher's death, his friends informed that Chris had called them many times, and he was afraid that something was trying to kill him. They told the cops that Christopher told them that he was sure that he was going to die before the week was over. These confessions baffled the investigators who thought he died of natural causes.
After weeks of investigation, the police discovered a chilling and scary side to Christopher's story.
A week before his death
On 11th April, Christopher traveled to San Francisco to meet some people from the music industry. During his trip, he met an old woman who was also interested in the ancient world's music, especially of the Mediterranean and Egyptian civilization. They bonded over their common taste in music, and it was apparently clear that the woman was interested in him.
The woman didn't keep her feelings towards Christopher any secret and expressed her desire to visit his home. Christopher declined her offers politely, but the woman seemed to be determined and not ready to accept any rejection.
The woman was older by 20 years than Christopher. When Christopher declined her offer and suggested that he should leave, which seemed to make the woman angry, the woman couldn't handle the feeling of rejection and said something that was very strange.
The woman told Christopher that she is a witch and she would curse him. She told Christopher that he would die within one week. Christopher shrugged her threat off and left.
Christopher was not superstitious or a believer of supernatural or paranormal. He disregarded every bad thing the woman told him, and he left for Seattle the next day.
Christopher shared the entire incident with one of his close friends, Sammy Sauder. Both of them dismissed the threats and didn't believe anything the woman said.
For the first few days after Christopher returned, he seemed to have forgotten completely about the incident.
On 14th April, Christopher called Sammy Sauder in panic. He was visibly afraid and said that he heard whispers but couldn't find the source. He also said that he saw shadows moving and constantly felt that someone was watching him all the time.
Christopher called Sammy thrice over the next few days and was in the same panic and fear.
On 16th April, Christopher called Sammy and told her that something attacked him in the night. He said that he woke up and felt something violent and evil was choking him, and he found himself mid-air, and then the force threw him back on the bed. He also noticed tiny cuts on his fingers, and the bed was stained with blood.
Christopher visited a bookstore called "Evangel Incorporated" the next morning. Rodney Higucci, the manager of the store, said to the police that he saw Christopher entering and picking up a few crucifixes. Rodney then asked him what he was going to do with the crucifixes? Christopher told him that he needs them to defend himself from evil entities. Rodney recommended a few books and said that these books could help him fight witchcraft.
Christopher placed the crucifixes in his home strategically, poured lines of salt along the rooms' extremities, and lit up candles in various positions. He wrote notes as methods to combat evil forces and scattered them throughout his house.
In less than a week, Chris was a changed man, no longer the confident, health-conscious, and rational young music enthusiast. He was not sleeping and didn't show up at work for two days.
Christopher called other friends as well, who described his voice as scared and alarmed.
For Christopher, 16th April's evening would bring his life's most terrifying experience. Nobody knew what happened that evening, but something scared him so badly that he left his apartment and booked a hotel room.
Since Christopher wasn't at home, Sammy couldn't reach him. She called the local police station and asked them to check on him. The cops arrived at his place only to find the apartment locked. Sammy was worried, but as she lived far away from Chris' place, she couldn't come and see him personally.
Sammy found a message on her answering machine. It was a message from Christopher, and she didn't realize then that this is the last time she would hear from her dear friend.
To Sammy's surprise, Chris sounded calm and composed, as if he was no longer thinking about the evil forces or scared of death. In the message, Chris said that "they'' had almost got him, and he said that he is sure that tonight is his last night in this world. Sammy wasn't the only one Christopher contacted; he visited a church in the afternoon and went to the bookstore, Evangel Incorporated. Rodney Higgucci, the manager of Evangel Incorporated, said that Chris looked exhausted.
Christopher Case passed away on 17th April 1991. The cause of death, according to the reports, was Myocarditis - an inexplicable and sudden stopping of the heart.
What happened to Christopher Case?
Did Christopher convince himself that he was cursed or scared himself to his own death? Or was it something sinister and evil?
Is it possible for a man to change from being a healthy, rational, and sane man to an obsessed, scared, and desperate man? Christopher knew he was going to die, and as scary as it sounds - he knew when!
Christopher never mentioned the name of the woman he met in San Francisco.
