Top 5 Superhero Myths Busted!

Superheroes are arguably the hottest part of the entire pop culture! They are not just limited to comic book pages and inspire TV shows, movies, and books.

Today, you won't find anyone unaware of the DC and Marvel comics' characters. Now that the superhero movies are your new favorite, it's time to know some of the most popular superhero myths and debunk them.

Here we go.

Superhero facts and myths

Myth: DC's Justice League inspired Marvel's Avengers

Martin Goodman launched Marvel comics in the year 1939. Martin Goodman was the one who hired Stan Lee, who went to become Marvel's face.

In 1961, Martin Goodman met one of DC comics' bosses, Jack Lebowitz, during a game of golf. Jack Lebowitz, who worked for Goodman's rival comics company, told Goodman that DC's superhero team of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and Green Lantern called the Justice League of America was doing very well.

Goodman shared this information with Stan Lee. Goodman expressed his wish to have his own superhero team.

Stan Lee saw this as an opportunity to create a new superhero team instead of teaming existing superheroes. That is when Stan Lee with Jack Kirkby introduced the Fantastic Four.

So, if you believe that Marvel's answer to Justice League is the Avengers, then you are wrong! It's the Fantastic Four.

Myth: Hulk is a mutant

The Hulk is a mutate, not a mutant! Mutants are born with abilities, but a mutate is not born with any special power or ability. It's the same logic with Deadpool as well!

Mutate is a word that is used in referring to a superhuman who acquires his or her superpower by exposure to mutagenic energy or compounds, either deliberately or accidentally!

Fact: Uncle Ben's mantra to Spider-man isn't original!

You must have seen, heard, or read Uncle Ben's "With great power comes great responsibility" quote at least a hundred times. Every time it's said or written, the credit was politely given to Uncle Ben or Sam Raimi's 2002 movie Spider-man.

Although it's a fantastic quote, it's not original. This quote first appeared in Amazing Fantasy #15 in the year 1962, which was Spider-man's origin story. The issue ends with a warning – "With great power, there must also be great responsibility," and that was a quote by Voltaire, a French Enlightenment Philosopher.

Myth: Aquaman can TALK to fish?

This is not entirely a myth. Aquaman could talk to fishes, but as writers and readers got smarter, DC comics changed it.

In the New 52, Geoff Johns revamped Aquaman's communication abilities to marine creatures. In the comic book, The Trench (Volume 1), Aquaman says that fishes' brains are too primitive to carry out conversations. Therefore, he reaches their midbrains and pushes them to do something telepathically.

Later in Aquaman #31, Aquaman commands alligators and makes them attack Swamp Thing, which clears that he can control any water-based creature.

Myth: Joker loves Harley

After watching David Ayer's Suicide Squad, if you started believing that Joker is in love with Harley Quinn, then you're in for a surprise. Although I get the constant effort of filmmakers to humanize Joker, he is irredeemable in comics.

He is a genius, super-sane (according to one of the greatest comic book writers, Grant Morrison), and beyond the definition of evil.

Joker canonically does not love Harley! He is an abusive and ruthless manipulator. Harley Quinn loves Joker and Joker knows it enough to use it against her.
